With this project, SETEC is consulting Albania in preparing for accession negotiations with the EU in the water sector and in programming the major investments that this will require. The focus of the project is primarily on the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive and the Drinking Water Directive.
The goals of the project are:
- to bring Albania's water legislation to the point where it complies fully with the requirements of the Directives
- to develop specific implementation plans for each Directive
- to prepare a programme of investments in infrastructure to achieve compliance with the requirements of both Directives
- to elaborate a capacity development plan, oriented primarily at the skills needed for implementation planning of the type described above.
The project will also develop a national sludge management strategy to complement the implementation plans.
